The Illinois River Road is the theme for a new book by David Alan Badger. The self-taught artist from Havana, Illinois has penned 8,000 drawings of Illinois architecture over the last twenty-seven years. Tentatively titled Recipes from the Illinois River Road, it is the first cookbook dedicated to the Illinois River.

Badger began work on the Illinois River Road book in early April which combines a series of drawings and recipes to create a "taste of the region". The author is contacting businesses and other interested parties about the project which has been endorsed by the Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway. Each business that purchases 24 copies of the book wholesale may submit a recipe and receive, in return, the original pen and ink drawing (copyright free) of their business and be featured in two pages of the publication.

Anaise Berry, Director of the Illinois Scenic Byway, said, "I think this is a great economic development tool for Byway-type businesses".

Badger plans to feature books on each of the state's seven scenic byways. Recipes from the Meeting of the Great Rivers was released in May 2008. Each book takes up to four months to complete but the artist has even loftier goals. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's body of work totaling over 20,000 original drawings, Badger has set that milestone as his ultimate plateau.
