Hillsboro of Illinois

David Alan Badger

JULY 12TH, 2005

Illinois Artist David Alan Badger and the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce are working together to create a book of historic structures in Hillsboro, Illinois. David Alan Badger is a self-taught artist and publisher and is well known for drawing historic Illinois architecture. He has published over 27 books on specific, local architecture and has completed over 7,000 pen and ink drawings of Illinois structural design.

David Alan lives in Havana, Illinois with his wife Rita. David began publishing his drawings in limited edition books in 1983. One of his publications includes a book of 102 Illinois county courthouse drawings that was completed in 1998. According to David, "architecture has a tremendous tourism attraction. By bringing architecture and history together you can create a genuine appreciation of local heritage". Mr. Badger credits his interest in architecture to his early interest in drawing and his father designing and building several structures in northern Illinois.

There will be two publications. The first publication will include 50 drawings of Hillsboro's historic structures. The book will measure 11.5 x 12 .5 and each drawing will have its own page, including a brief description of the structure. The book will retail for $30 and a limited quantity will be produced. The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce will be writing a brief narrative of each structure. The Chamber of Commerce will help promote the book, organize a book signing event and find locations to sell the book. Twenty-five percent of the book sales go to the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.

The second publication is an advertising magazine for Hillsboro businesses. Each business, if they choose to purchase an advertisement, will be provided with an original drawing of their building by David Alan Badger and that drawing will also be included in their advertisement. The free publication will also include some of the drawings from the Hillsboro historic architecture book. Each advertiser will be given 50 publications to display and to give to their customers. Also for purchasing an advertisement, the business will also be given a Hillsboro historic architecture book.

Over the next several weeks, Mr. Badger will be visiting businesses in Hillsboro.

A specific completion date for the book and advertising publication has not yet been released. However, information will be forthcoming. In addition, if you have any questions, please contact a Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce member.
